Artist-photographer, painter/ sculptor, writer, and speaker on art and cultural matters.
As the U.S. correspondent to Prague's premier art magazine, Atelier, and the German Euro-Journal, Gabriela Landa has been an observer of cultural affairs and a voice to Europe from the United States since 2001.
She studied photography with Hartmut Schmidt in Germany and worked the INTERNATIONAL CENTER OF PHOTOGRAPHY in New York. Using her insight into different cultures acquired during years of study and travel, she has made photography of countries and cultures part of her life, in journalism as well as in art.
Focussing mainly on photography, Gabriela Landa also creates paintings and sculptures, which seem like ephemeral objects hanging in free space, as well as large sculptures, wearable on the human body and cross the line to being jewelry.
Her art work has been exhibited amoung others at the Biennial ABSOLUT Invitational in Los Angeles and the National Museum of Arts and Crafts in Prague. Her wearable sculptures have been featured in numerous fashion and art shows in Europe, New York and Los Angeles, and have been worn by celebrities, including Miss World. Her latest exhibit was shown at the German Consulate to New York in Febuary 2009.
Publications include Visual Artbeat (2009), The Hampton Sheet New York, the newsletters of the Czech and German Embassy in the USA (2009, 2008), Talent in Motion Magazine New York (2005), Harper's Bazaar, Cosmopolitan and a variety of blogs and other publication.
In 2004, she was invited to photograph the sixtieth anniversary of the French ''La Resistance." The multi-perspective images she produced there were shown in her solo show in the Imagine '04 Cultural Festival in NewYork. Recently her body of photographic work on mega-cities has been shown at the German Consulate in New York.
Gabriela Landa attended the Universities of Munich, Prague and Vienna, where she received a M.A. in anthropology, art, and communications. She has also been a guest student at the Academy of Art in Berlin and worked at the International Center of Photography in New York. She lived in Europe until 1997, in Guatemala from 1996 to 2001, and in New York from 2001 and now devides her time between NYC and Europe.
